Des Herbstes graue Nebelschritte streifen
durch Gärten, wo er hell im Farbenglanz
noch gestern ließ die Bäume Licht ergreifen
und milde Lüfte durch die Äste schweifen,
die Blätter schweben sanft in lindem Tanz.
Als habe er vergessen sein Versprechen,
das er mit seinem goldnen Leuchten gab,
lässt er sogar den Frost sich jetzt erfrechen,
an allem, was so schön hier, sich zu rächen,
zu wirken rau gereift der Rose Grab.
Sagt: „ Schweige still, denn alles muss vergehen!
Doch wisse, es gibt eine Wiederkehr,
dann darfst du dieses Lebens Schönheit sehen,
der Blüten Pracht wird hier erneut entstehen,
wo nun noch Nebel trügt, herrscht Sonne hehr!“
